If you aren’t utilizing SEO with your social media or vice versa, you are falling behind in the world of online content. And when I say falling behind, you are actually miles behind! With the ever increasing trend of people getting on board with different social media platforms and sharing information, it is important that social media and SEO teams are working together. In order to create “share-worthy” content. Share worthy content can be based on a number of factors:

  • Seasonal trends
  • Changes in your current market
  • Demographic factors
  • Society
  • Search traffic – duh!

Google Trends is a great way to find out what is popular at the moment; it shows the very terms people have been searching for. For example, let’s look at the lovely Kim Kardashian, we can see according to Google trends how popular she has been over the years. From originally starring in short films featuring Ray J which leaked to the public in 2007 to “breaking the Internet” toward the end of 2014, and you can see the trend spike during this time as well.

During this time, social media and SEO teams should have been quick to jump onto to opportunity to work together in creating content that will capture attention and then get shared across, not only social media channels but mentioned in on blogs and websites. Of course, in order for this to be a success, the content should be unique. And when I say unique I mean not different wording, but different to what all the other media companies are doing. You want to stand out from the rest of the bunch that will be talking about the same thing so that your content can engage users and get shared.

There have been so many times that information gets shared on Facebook and only remains on Facebook due to social media teams. There has also been instances where great content has been created on website blogs and nobody found out about it fast enough as social media teams were not involved. This is why both the social media and SEO teams should be collaborating together to create awesome content that everyone will find out about at the right time.
